Gynwell'
Notes
Gynewell' was apparently a wardrober of Henry, earl of Lancaster, and very important in his household. He seems to have originally
been a Leicestershire man and held many ecclesiastical offices there and elsewhere, most seemingly through the patronage of
the earl. He became bishop of Lincoln in 1347, and held the office until his death on 5 August 1362. Although he seems not
to have continued in Lancaster's service after becoming bishop, Kenneth Fowler has shown that he continued to be a close friend,
advising the earl/duke on various matters, and was one of his executors. For fuller detail, see Fowler, The King's Lieutenant
(1969), pp. 179-80. (fl. 1346).
