Notes

Going to Aquitaine in the king's service, and staying there in the company of Edward of Woodstock in 1369. The knight John Clanvow was an important courtier and poet. Coming from a minor landowning family of the Welsh marches, he progressed from being retained by the Bohun earls to royal service. He served in Brittany, with Sir John Chandos, and was with him when he died in 1370. He served with John of Gaunt on his campaigning in France. He has been considered one of those knights with Lollard sympathies. He died in 1391 on his way to crusade in the East.
