Notes

A night who held extensive estates in Yorkshire, and was closely associated with the Lord Edward, later Edward I. He also was the recipient of lands in Gascony (Lalinde). He served as seneschal of Gascony from 1274, but was subsequently removed because of opposition from many in Aquitaine to his firm rule. He died on Edward I's second Welsh war in 1282 in fighting in Anglesea.
